The journey of Lauren Rose Hughes through this life ended unexpectedly and too soon on Oct. 20, 2017. The loving daughter of Thomas H. and Nancy G. Hughes III of New Haven, Lauren was born on March 19, 1984. Lauren found inspiration in the words of Oscar Wilde, “Where your life leads you, you must go,” and she wholeheartedly embraced this advice as she did life itself. All in her orbit agreed, this talented, driven young woman was heading to the stars, and destined not only to achieve high standing, but also brighten the places wherever her life’s pursuits took her. Even when obstacles cropped up in her path, none deterred her, not even epilepsy. Always an excellent student who earned high honors, Lauren graduated Hamden High School, and she received an undergraduate from McGill University in Montreal. She was working on earning her MBA at the time of her death. The inquisitive, sharp and agile intellect that led Lauren to excel in academics also served her well in her professional life. She worked in the biomedical field after graduating university. She was working as a Account Manager for Bio-Chem Fluidics, a job she loved. Lauren was a devoted and beloved daughter, granddaughter, cousin and niece, and friend. She was like an older sister to her younger cousins, all of whom she adored and loved her back equally.Lauren is survived by her maternal grandmother, Shirley Okun, her maternal grandfather Abraham Goldberg and his wife Janet Goldberg, of New Mexico; her maternal aunt Susan Benjamin and uncle Robert Benjamin, of New York; and her cousins, Victoria Benjamin and Stephanie Benjamin, both of New York.In addition, Lauren is survived by her paternal grandmother, Rita G. Hughes, of Cheshire; her paternal aunt Mary Hughes, of Cheshire and Nancy Roy of Florida; her paternal uncle Peter Hughes and aunt Rochelle Hughes, of Middletown; her paternal uncle Paul Hughes, of Cheshire; and her cousins, Ryan Hughes, of Woodbridge, VA; Margaret Hughes, of Middletown; and Erin Hughes and Chelsea Hughes, both of Middletown. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Thomas H. Hughes Jr., of Cheshire; and her paternal uncles, Kevin Hughes and Timothy Hughes, both of Cheshire. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in ST. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Friends are asked to go directly to church. Burial in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden.
