Joseph J Cirasuolo

Joseph passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024 at the age of 83. Joe was born in New Haven, CT in August of 1941 to his parents, Rose and Angelo Cirasuolo. Joseph received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fairfield University, his Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Degree from Wesleyan University, and his Doctor of Education Degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. He began his teaching career in Hamden, CT in 1964, serving as an assistant principal, in both Hamden's junior high schools, and the Hamden Director of Learning Services. In 1979, he was elected to his first superintendency, in Clinton, CT. He served in Clinton for eleven years and in Wallingford, CT for twelve more before leaving to become a leadership development consultant for the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and later AASA's Chief Operating Officer. In 2008, he became the Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS). Dr. Cirasuolo served as the President of CAPSS in 1992-93, as President of the New England Association of School Superintendents in 1993-94, and as President of AASA in 1999-2000. In 1993, Dr. Cirasuolo was named Connecticut's Superintendent of the Year. In July 2008, he became the Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) serving until June 2017. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Sheila, son David and wife Alexandria; his son Stephen and wife Leigh; his five grandchildren Ryan, Catherine, John, Declan and Bennett; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A wake will be held on Friday, November 1st from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Avenue Hamden, CT 06518. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00am at St. Patrick - St. Anthony’s Church located at 285 Church Street, Hartford CT 06103. Following the service, all are invited to a reception at the Hartford Club located at 46 Prospect Street, Hartford CT 06102 from 11:30am to 2:00pm.
