Rita Smith Jordan

September 16, 1925 - July 25, 2021

Rita Smith Jordan of West Haven, CT passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice on July 25th, 2021. She was a proud New Haven native, born on September 16th, 1925, to John and Alice Smith. Rita graduated from Hillhouse High School and the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing with many of her lifelong friends. She married Harold M. Jordan on June 5th, 1948, and lived for a short time in Providence, RI before moving back to the New Haven area. They moved to Woodbridge, CT in 1960, where they lived until Harold’s death in 1990. Together they lovingly raised four children there: Michael (Wellesley, MA), Nancy (North Haven, CT), Carol Nesel (Stephen) of Virginia, and Peter (Jane) of Jupiter, Florida. She had four grandchildren (Carrie, Geoffrey and Garrett Jordan, and Alexandra Nesel), and one great grandchild (Morgan Jane Barad). They will all miss her very much. Rita was pre-deceased by two brothers, John and James Smith of New Haven, and sister Alice Smith Linnane. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Rita was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. She took great pride in her home and being present for her family and friends. Her caring nature and warm smile charmed everyone around her. Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge for over 60 years, and volunteered actively for many causes, including Connecticut Hospice, the Red Cross, and the Woodbridge Library. The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Fan, Visiting Angels and CT. Hospice for their care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Wednesday at 11 am at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge, CT. Friends are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery 280 Derby Avenue, West Haven. Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Avenue, Hamden is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Our Lady of Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525. To leave an online condolence please visit www.siskbrothers.com
