Frances S. Rife Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Frances S. Rife passed away on March 17, 2016 at CT. Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Fran was born September 6, 1939 in New Haven. She resided in Branford and Pompano Beach, FL. Fran was the daughter of the late Chief Francis J. Sweeney, NHFD and Helen (Carney) Sweeney. She is survived by her loving children Maureen Salzillo (Neal), Betsy Wambolt, Rick Rife (Patty) and Jennifer Cole (Cpt. Gary W. Cole, NHFD). Fran is also survived by 10 cherished grandchildren and a great grandson. She leaves her beloved partner Mario Tierno, brother William Sweeney (Anne), sister MaryEllen Maher, sister in law Anne Sweeney. She was predeceased by her brother Dr. Thomas Sweeney and her brother in law Donald Maher. Fran leaves many beloved nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Fran graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing enjoying a wonderful career at St. Raphael's and later in her career Yale New Haven Hospital as a research nurse. She had a wonderful retirement spent traveling abroad, spending time with family and friends, reading, but her absolute passion was following her grandchildrens sports careers. She could be found at the baseball field, basketball or football games or watching her granddaughters play softball, volleyball or lacrosse. Fran loved her New England Patriots and her Boston Red Sox. She was happily aware of the very first American League Championship by her UCONN Huskies. Fran will be greatly missed by many. Funeral from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial in All Saints Cemetery.
