Barbara H. McGovern Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Barbara H. O'Malley McGovern, 87, of Hamden passed away peacefully on June 27, 2017 after a brief illness. Loving wife of the late John McGovern. Devoted mother of John McGovern and wife Patricia of North Haven, Patricia Fontaine and husband Leo of Durham, James McGovern and wife Patricia of North Haven and Barbara Mongillo and husband James of Hamden. Grandmother of Sarah and Stephanie McGovern, Matthew and Kyle Fontaine, Grace, Molly and Jack McGovern and Elizabeth and Katherine Mongillo. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Marion O'Malley and a brother John O'Malley. Born June 29,1929 in New Haven a daughter of the late James and Barbara Davis O'Malley she was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, class of 1947 and had been employed at the Yale Medical Library, the United Illuminating Co., and then as a claims processor with the Home Insurance Co. from where she retired. Barbara was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Hamden. Barbara was very proud of her Irish heritage, enjoyed going to coffee with her friends, and most especially enjoyed spending time with her family who will miss her greatly. Funeral from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Monday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church at 10:00.
