William J. Giblin

In New Haven, April 25 ,2014, William J. Giblin, 81, of Hamden. Beloved husband of Victoria J. Hoerner Giblin. Father of Susan H. (Chuck) Evens of IL, Mary Joy (Tom) White of North Haven, Jude T. Giblin of TN, Veronica Han-G (Alan) Deakins of FL and Christopher M. Giblin of FL. Also survived by seven grandchildren. Born June 24, 1932 in Fall River MA, a son of the late James and Susan Sullivan Giblin , he graduated from high school in New Haven and in 1950 joined the staff of the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus. Bill worked for many years as Supervisor of the Knights warehouse and also Supervisor of Central Files. He also worked at times in the accounting dept., the commissions dept. and the treasurers dept. He had a working record longer than anyone ever had at the Supreme Council, which would total sixty four years this coming June 19th. Bill joined the Knights of Columbus as a member of Council # 1, New Haven in 1953 and was chosen to be the first "Historian of Record " for the council. In 1983 he updated all Council # 1 records from day one and continued to the present time. He was elected the 102nd Grand Knight of Council # 1 in 1986, and served as Recorder from 1987-1994 and 1995-2013. He instituted and was also a member of the First Degree Team of the council. Bill joined the Commodore John Barry Assembly of the 4th Degree in 1965 and served as Faithful Navigator of the Assembly from 1987-1988 and Faithful Comptroller from 1990-1997 and was a member of the Honor Guard of the assembly and for the State Master. He was appointed as District Deputy for the Conn. State Council from 1990-1994 and was on the Conn. State Council membership staff from 1987-1994. Bill instituted a new council, # 10477 at St, Joan of Arc Church in Hamden in 1990 and was a delegate to the Supreme Council Convention in Pittsburgh, PA in 1994. He was a very charitable man and taught many knights information if they needed it and was a kind and gentle man who was loved by everyone who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:00 in St. Mary Church, Hillhouse Ave., New Haven. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
