William Barrett

William Christopher Barrett of Hamden, husband of Rosemary Lynch Barrett died peacefully at home after a long, happy life and a marriage of 62 yrs. to his very special and devoted wife. Bill graduated from St. Francis Grammar School and Hillhouse High School in New Haven. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and as part of "The Greatest Generation" he served his country honorably on the USS General W.P. Richardson for 3 yrs. Bill was a loyal and dedicated employee of SNET for 36 yrs. as a cable splicing technician. Upon his retirement he pursued and enjoyed his talent as a Stained Glass Artisan. His family and many friends are recipients of his professional work. He was born on Christmas Day in 1921 to the late Mary Fitzpatrick Barrett and John F. Barrett of New Haven and Ireland. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Agnes Naughton and Marjorie Barrett and 3 brothers Joseph, Thomas and John Barrett. In addition to his beloved wife and best friend Rosemary, he leaves his sister in law Helen Barrett of Branford and a large close, loving family of 18 nieces and nephews, 31 grand nieces and nephews and 33 great nieces and nephews. Bill also leaves devoted cousins in this area and in Long Island, NY as well as a very special Aunt in County Clare, Ireland and numerous cousins in County Clare and Limerick, Ireland. Bill and Rosemary enjoyed their annual trips to Ireland to be with these beloved relatives. Those who love us do not go away, they walk beside us everyday. Bill was a member of the Irish American Community Center, Irish American Historical Society, Sleeping Giant Park Association, Morris F. Tyler Chapter of SNET, NH Council of SNET Pioneers and SNET Retirees Association. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for over 55 years. He will always be remembered as an especially devoted husband, loving Uncle, Brother, Cousin and a kind and generous man and will be missed by all who knew him.Sincere and loving thanks to all of the "Angels" who brought such joy and comfort to Bill's life during his illness.
