Nancy Catherine McKeown

Nancy Catherine Downing McKeown entered peacefully into rest on October 14, 2014, after a courageous battle, surrounded by her loved ones. Loving wife of James E McKeown, they celebrated sixty years of wedded bliss this past August 14th. She was the daughter of the late John Maurice and Nellie Reilly Downing of County Kerry Ireland. Also predeceased by her sisters Eleanor Downing, Mary V. Maloney and two infant brothers. She was loved and adored by her children, James E. (Anne) McKeown of Milford, CT, Maura Erin McKeown of Hamden, CT, John Downing McKeown of Tampa, FL and Nadeen Ellen McKeown of West Haven, CT, Her beautiful granddaughters; Brennan Ellie of Manhattan, NY and Tiernan Emma McKeown of Milford, CT, loving sister and friend Joan Connor of West Haven, CT, loving sister-in-law Mary Savoie of Westbrook, CT and many kind and caring nieces and nephews. A talented artist and painter, she attended Paier School of Art and classes at Weslyan. She took her artistic talents to interior decorating and creative projects with her children and granddaughters. Nancy volunteered at Gaylord Hospital and the Girl Scouts in earlier years. She had been employed at the former CT. Savings Bank in Human Resources. After retiring in 1987, Nancy opened the Creamery at Savin Rock, West Haven, along with her husband and daughter Nadeen, which she ran for ten years. Nancy lived with her family in Northford for 42 years and was blessed with a wonderfully lively group of true friends. She and Jim later moved to West Walk, West Haven where Nancy was a long time member of the West Haven Irish American Club and a parishioner of St. John Vianney Church. Many thanks to the West Walk family of friends for their visits and support. Nancy’s family would also like to thank all the caregivers at Apple Rehab of West Haven, CT. and Vitas Hospice for the gentle and loving care she received. Memorial contributions can be made to the McKeown Scholarship Fund at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday October 29, 2014 at 11:00am at ST. John Vianney Church West Haven, CT. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, CT. Arrangements are with Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. www.siskbrothers.com
