Nancy M. King

Nancy Moffitt King of Orange, 87, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Attorney Jackson T. King. She is survived by her children, Attorney Susan King Shaw (David) of Woodbridge, Karen F. King of Vermont, Alison King Haley (Pierce) of Boston, MA, and Thomas J. King (Claudia) of Orange. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Streckfus of Bridgeport, her six grandchildren, Emily and Jackson Shaw, Pierce Jackson and Saunders Haley, and Colton and Kaela King, as well many nieces and nephews. Nancy was born in Bridgeport on February 14, 1931, to the late William H. Moffitt, III and Helen Saunders Moffitt and grew up in Fairfield. She was a graduate of Roger Ludlow High School and St. Joseph’s College, and received her master’s degree in education from Columbia University. Prior to her marriage, Nancy worked as a registered nurse and public health nurse administrator for the VNA in the greater Hartford area. After her marriage, she devoted her life to her family, children and grandchildren, and was widely known for her kindness, compassion and service. Nancy was passionate about nature and the great outdoors. She kept binoculars in the kitchen alongside the Audubon Society's North American Field Guide to keep track of the birds in her back yard. She loved to swim, walk in the woods and play tennis. Nancy took piano lessons as a child and could still play her favorite, Debussy's "Clair de Lune," well into her 70s. She was a life long learner, taking classes toward a degree in Psychology once her children were grown. Nancy was an active member of Holy Infant Parish, and served as a lector in her later years. Her great faith and unconditional love for others were an example and inspiration to all who knew her. The family would like to thank Nancy’s longtime friend, Sofie, and her caregiver, Heather, the Orange VNA and Connecticut Hospice for their compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Infant Church. Friends are asked to go directly to church. Burial in Orange Center Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden.
