Mary (Maureen) McGovern Brooks

Mary (Maureen) McGovern Brooks 64, passed away peacefully in Whitney Center in Hamden, surrounded by her loving family. Maureen was the widow of Robert Brooks, retired NHPD and as an Inspector with State Attorney's Office, Milford. Maureen was the daughter of late Edward and Annie McGovern. Survivors include brother Patrick McGovern of Cheshire, sister and brother in-law Margaret and Nikolaos Hionis, Hamden, sister Anne McCarthy, husband Jay McCarthy, Madison and mother in-law Patricia Parsons Cheshire. Many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. The McGovern family wish to express sincere gratitude to Maureen and Bobby’s dear friends Peter and Elaine Curley for all their support and kindness. Maureen was born in Cliffoney, Sligo, Ireland. The family immigrated to the USA in 1967 and settled into Westville in New Haven where there were many warm memories with family and friends. Maureen had an exciting 35-year career with Comcast/Xfinity communications where she enjoyed the ever-changing development of technology and being so close to it on a daily basis. Maureen and her late husband Bobby cared for and loved each other for over thirty years. They supported each other through illness and carried on living life to its fullest. They loved to travel and visited Ireland, Normandy, San Francisco and Las Vegas along with New York and New England. The enjoyed Irish music at many local venues here and in Yorkers, NY and County Claire Ireland. Maureen enjoyed quiet retreats to Claire as often as she could. She also was known to take many journey's all over Ireland to visit friends who may have returned to retire there. Maureen also made many visits to the Yonkers Irish community where she had lot of fun, enjoyed the music and Craic. Both Maureen and Bobby were big sports enthusiasts and shared a similar love for sports. Maureen's family would like to express our gratitude to the many clinicians, nurses, APRN's, technicians and support staff who have cared for her so compassionately over the many years of her illness. Smilow Cancer Center, New Haven and North Haven - Divine Street, CT Hospice in Branford, Whitney Center, Leeder Hill Dr, Hamden Health Care, the Hamden Fire Department, American Medical Response and many others who supported us during Maureen's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Smilow Caner Center or CT Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in Hamden. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
