Joseph Charles Giardina, Sr It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Charles Giardina announces his passing, on Friday February 16, 2018, at the age of 89 years.Joe, as he was affectionately called, was born on May 20, 1928 in New Haven to Vincent Giardina and Marianne Alu. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years Phyllis (Cioffi) Giardina, their 4 children, Debbie Pullano (Sal) of North Haven, Vinnie Giardina of Hamden, Joe Giardina Jr. of Hamden, Louise Giardina of Fairfield. His siblings, Brother Vincent Giardina II of West Haven, Sister Dina Cart (Frank) of Westbrook, His 2 grandchildren Vanessa Bryer (Craig) of Burlington MA, and Melinda Pullano of Miami, FL.He also leaves many loved nieces and nephews and his four legged companion “Molly”. He was predeceased by his brother Dr. David Giardina, and his sister Rita Giardina D’Aslessio. Joe was one of the first graduates of Saint Anthony School. He graduated from Hillhouse High School and then joined the Army in 1946 where he spent a year in Japan after the wars end.He later attended New York University and then transferred to Quinnipiac College where he earned his Degree. He worked as an Accountant for a few years and then started his own Insurance company, Joseph C. Giardina Insurance Agency. Later in his life he worked for M.H . Chodos Insurance Agency as an Agent until 2017.Joe was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed entertaining family with his quick wit and humor. His athletic abilities made him a great teammate and competitor in basketball, golf, and bowling. He was adored for his love of Italian music and his proficient dancing ability. He was also the envy of his wife’s wonderful cooking. His Funeral will leave Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial donations in memory of Joe can be made to YNHH “The fund for Hospital of Saint Raphael Campus”.
