JOAN P. FERRARO - Our Lord called for Joan Pauline Ferraro on Tuesday morning, April 26, 2022 at her home in Hamden, CT. Joan was born on November 23, 1936 in West Haven, CT to the late Frank and Pauline Brewer. She was married to Salvatore Ferraro, Sr. on September 3, 1959 and was his devoted, caring and loving wife until his passing in May, 2012. She was a selfless and dedicated mother to her children, Salvatore Ferraro, Jr, who predeceased her in October 2010, and his wife Nancy (North Haven), John C. Ferraro (Hamden), Peter J Ferraro (North Haven) and his fiancé, Dayna Zingarella, Mark D. Ferraro (Killingworth) and his wife Lisa. She was a loving and proud grandmother to her loves, her grandchildren; Mark Jr., Victoria, Julia, Cara, Sara, Salvatore Jr. (Little Sal), and Sophia. They were the bright light in her life and kept her smiling with their many accomplishments. She was sister to Nancy Vagnini of Hamden, Irene Miller of West Haven, Sandra Laudano of East Haven and Lorraine Brewer of Pompano Beach, FL. Predeceased by brothers James and David Brewer and sisters Pauline Sargolini and Jane F. Sarno. She leaves behind her brothers and sisters-in-laws, David (Robin) Ferraro, Paul Ferraro (Colorado) and Joanna (Ferraro) Toler (Rhode Island). Predeceased by Peter Ferraro, Lina (Ferraro) DiLiberto, Philip (Shirley) Ferraro, Joseph (Becky) Ferraro, and Ruth (Dave) Ronalter. Joan leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Additionally, she will be truly missed by the many friends who have become extended family. In 1974, Joan and her husband founded Ferraro's Foodland on Grand Avenue in New Haven, CT. Together with their sons they successfully ran the business eventually moving the store from New Haven to North Haven in 2021. She relished her role as the “traveling bookkeeper” making her way between her home and the store. Known to her by her nickname, “Joanie Baloney”, she enjoyed shopping at X-Pect Discounts with her mother and brother Jimmy, cutting coupons, and art & crafts with her sisters. Sundays were spent cooking, eating, laughing, and spending the day around the table enjoying the company of her family and friends. Sunday dinners will never again be the same. Joan enjoyed spending warm summer days in Killingworth relaxing with the beautiful view of the lake and the outdoors. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion, one could always expect a note from her, reminding you that you were thought of and loved. She and Sal, Sr. had a strong sense of faith, family, and community which they instilled in their family and is witnessed today in her children and grandchildren. Friends will remember being greeted by her happy smile and her ability to make you feel as if you were the only person in the room; always asking the usual questions but truly interested in your answers. She will be missed but her love and her life will live on in all the memories made and in everyone she touched. Those left behind are comforted in the knowledge that she is reunited with those that have gone before her.
