Carole Pfisterer Hart

Carole Pfisterer Hart, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and community leader, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 21, 1942, in New Haven, Connecticut, Carole was the daughter of Henry Albert Pfisterer and Hortense Marchessault Pfisterer. She grew up in Hamden, Connecticut, with her brother, Chuck, with whom she shared a special lifelong bond. She graduated from Prospect Hill School and went on to attend Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia. After graduating in 1964, she returned to New Haven and married Peter Hart, her high school sweetheart. Together, they built a life grounded in love, family, and shared purpose. Inspired by her mother’s deep commitment to service, Carole dedicated much of her life to volunteerism and civic leadership. She joined the Junior League of Greater New Haven in 1965, where her leadership abilities quickly became evident. Over the years, she served as Treasurer, Administrative Vice President, and ultimately President of the local League. During this time, she was also deeply engaged in her broader community, serving as Secretary of the Board of the United Way, as well as a member of its Executive and Finance Committees. She also held leadership roles, including President of the Hopkins-Day Prospect Hill Alumni Council. Her impact expanded nationally when she joined the Board of The Association of Junior Leagues, Inc. in 1980. She later served as Treasurer and then as President from 1984 to 1986, leading an organization of 160,000 women worldwide. During her tenure, Carole championed the role of women in civic leadership and advocated for policies supporting the safety and well-being of children. She participated in congressional hearings on Capitol Hill, helping to advance national conversations on issues affecting families and communities. Notably, she was only the second president in the organization’s history to hold a full-time job while serving in that role. In the same year she became President of the Association of Junior Leagues, Carole was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. With characteristic strength and resolve, she refused to let the diagnosis define her. She continued her work, leadership, and service, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination. Professionally, Carole worked as Director of Administration for New England Log Homes, a national log home manufacturer, where she balanced a demanding career with her extensive volunteer commitments and her role as a mother of three. Her ability to manage these responsibilities with grace and determination was a hallmark of her character. Carole also made time for fun and connection. She loved sports and staying active and was rarely one to sit still. She enjoyed playing tennis at her local pool and tennis club and proudly won the Ladies’ Doubles Tennis Championship with her dear friend, Lainie Lipsher. She especially loved watching her children compete in their high school sports, often racing from work to the fields so she could cheer them on. She was immensely proud of her children and always made time, no matter how busy she was, to support them. Following her time with the Junior League, Carole remained deeply engaged in her community through a wide range of board and leadership roles. She served on numerous nonprofit boards, including The APT Foundation in New Haven, one of the oldest substance use treatment programs in the United States. She was the first female member of the Board of Trustees for the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA. She also served for many years on the Committee of Trustees for Hopkins School in New Haven, including as President. In 1994, Carole and Peter moved to the Adirondacks in upstate New York, a place that became her sanctuary. The move followed the acquisition of New England Log Homes by Lincoln Log Homes in Chestertown, New York. Carole continued her professional career there as Assistant to the President and Corporate Secretary. It was in the Adirondacks, however, that she embraced a slower pace of life, tending to her gardens, reading by the lake, and creating cherished memories with family during summers and holidays. She also continued her spirit of service through involvement with the Chester-Horicon Health Guild and the Friends of the Chester Library, where she served as Treasurer and helped guide the library to full accreditation within the New York Library System. In 2019, Carole and Peter relocated to Fort Myers, Florida, where she traded gardening for beach walks and shell collecting. She became a member of the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club and found joy in the natural beauty of the Florida coast. Carole is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Peter; her son Christopher and his wife Megan of Evanston, Illinois; her daughter Kimberly and her husband Steve Hein of Short Hills, New Jersey; her son Kyle and his wife Mary of Oak Park, Illinois; her brother, Charles Pfisterer and his wife Ann of Madison, Connecticut; and her niece, Katy Armenia and her husband Dave of Clinton, Connecticut. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Elena, Henry, Caleb, Casey, and Maeve. Carole will be remembered for her strength, her warmth, her unwavering commitment to family, and her lifelong dedication to serving others. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the example she set for all who knew her.
