Brigid Lillis

Brigid “Bridie” Lillis, age 83 of Hamden passed away peacefully into the hands of God on April 23, 2018 surrounded by her beloved family. She was born in McLoughra, County Leirtrim, Ireland on March 1, 1935 to the late James & Katie (Ward) Bohan. In 1954, Bridie immigrated to the United States with her sister, Mary to the home of her Aunt Elizabeth (Ward) and Uncle John Moffett. Bridie was married to the love of her life, the late Patrick (Paddy) Lillis for 43 years. She is survived by her children Mary Lillis of Hamden, Rev. James & Cynthia (Vitti) Lillis of Wallingford, Patrick Jr. & Carolyn (Harris) Lillis of North Haven and Paul & Melissa (Haesche) Lillis of North Haven. Bridie cherished her six grandchildren James, Chrissy, Aidan, Patrick, Molly and Kaley Lillis who were the light and loves of her life.Bridie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed attending Mass daily, cooking, reading, traveling, spending time with her family and friends, watching Judge Judy and eating her favorite candy, Roses Irish chocolates. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events. The greatest gift she gave to her family and friends was her unconditional love. Her faith guided her throughout life. Bridie was an active parishioner of St. Rita Church in Hamden and a member of the Folk group for many years. She volunteered with the Folk group and helped feed the homeless at The Columbus House in New Haven. She was a past member of the St. Rita Lady’s Guild, the Pioneers of Sacred Heart and the New Haven Gaelic Football & Hurling Club. She was named Miss Connacht, representing her province in Ireland. Bridie worked as a cook at Yale University and as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Whitney Center in Hamden. Bridie leaves behind many family members including her sister, Anne (Patrick) Keogh of Hamden and brothers, James (Mary) Bohan of Old Saybrook, and Martin Bohan of Ireland as well as sister-in-law, Margaret Bohan of Hamden, brothers-in-law, John (Marie) Lillis of Ireland and Joseph (Miriam) Lillis of Hamden. She was loved by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bridie will be fondly remembered by all who knew her as a kind and gentle soul with a smile on her face. She is predeceased by her brothers, Patrick, Michael and Bartley Bohan and sisters, Bernadette Bohan and Mary (Bohan) Smith as well as her in-laws, Philip Smith, Michael Lillis, Mary (Lillis) Keniry, Bridget (Lillis) & Patrick Lyden and nephew, Patrick Lyden, Jr. and niece, Mary (Keniry) Wilson. Funeral from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden Friday at 9:30 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Rita Church. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery.
