Antoinette M Richard

Antoinette “Nan” Richard died peacefully at 98 years old on March 28, 2023. She lived a life full of gratitude, love for her family, and strength beyond measure. She was an avid and highly skilled bowler, die hard Yankees fan, Rummicube expert, exceptional baker and gardener. She always took pride in her work as a bank customer service representative as well as her volunteer positions at the Oakdale concert theater and the local library later in life. Born on February 8, 1925 to Frank and Josephine Scalo in Waterbury, she grew up alongside 5 brothers and sisters. Her father owned a convenience store where they would often gather and Sunday night pasta dinners were not to be missed. She is survived by Natalie Marcuccio of South Carolina and predeceased by brothers Pat Scalo (Wolcott, CT) and John Scalo (Edgewater, FL), and sisters Mary Sciarrino (Silver Springs, MD) and Gilda Poletto (Rockville, MD). She married her first love, Edmund Skowronski, at 24 years old. They built a house on Wood Street in Hamden CT that would eventually be the host of countless family gatherings, birthdays, and holidays. She is survived by their two children Robert Skowronski and his wife Karen (Killingworth, CT) and Elaine Vivero and her husband Pat (Ipswich, MA). She widowed at 42 years old and years later met her second love, Andre Richard. They married in 1979 and she spent 18 lovely years with him before he passed away in February of 1997. She was instrumental in bringing two families together to become one. She is survived by step children Linda Richard (Middlebury) and Mark Richard (Waterbury) and predeceased by Dennis Richard (Waterbury). Nan is also survived by her 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face. She beamed with pride and joy when surrounded by them. As her family grew, sitting around a table full of those she loved may have been her biggest joy. Whether she was serving raviolis and meatballs or homemade pizza, the love and laughter was always a constant. One could also bet a plate of homemade Italian cookies would make its way to the table. While formerly from Hamden, CT (Whitneyville), she spent the last 4 years of her life loved and cared for by the staff at Aaron Manor in Chester, CT. She spent many of her days cheerfully singing old Italian songs and bringing smiles to the faces of those around her. Her family is eternally grateful to the staff for their love and support. To celebrate the legacy of Antoinette Richard, please join us at the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday April 2, 2023. A Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Church, on the corner of Eld Street and State St in New Haven, CT on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 10:00am. Burial to follow the Mass at St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck, CT. To honor her love and appreciation for gardening, flower arrangements can be sent to the funeral home.
