Anna Russo

Anna Tracanna Russo, 96, passed away at the Arden House on Tuesday June 17th. She was the wife of the late Ralph M. Russo. Born in New Haven on November 30, 1917 to Nicholas and Angelina Tracanna, she was co-owner of Russo Bros. Hardware and Paint Co. on Dixwell Ave. Hamden. She lived in Hamden most of her life, graduated from Hamden High School third in her class, and attended Southern CT State University. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph of 62 years, her brother Nicholas Tracanna, Jr. and her sisters Mae Trocchio, Mary Gravante and Josephine Corso. In her later years she lived with her daughter Judith and her son in law William Brain of Cheshire . She also leaves two beloved grandsons William Jr. (Danielle) Brain and David (Deb) Brain. Anna was a former member of Laurel View Country Club and past president of the nine hole women's golf league. She was an avid golfer and last played a mother-daughter tournament, with her granddaughter-in-law Danielle, at the age of 80. She also was a past president of the Helen St. School PTA and a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for seven years. A great lover of books, Anna read to many inner-city schoolchildren when she retired in 1982. Anna also was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain at dinner parties where she made five course dinners seem effortless. She traveled extensively with her husband and friends and had a great sense of humor. She loved life and will be sorely missed. Also thanks to Dr. Gill and Dr. Paul Monaco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. - 9:30a.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden.
