Angela Therese Beirne

Angela Theresa Beirne (neé Kielty), 83, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully after a long illness on July 14, 2023, at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven from complications of cancer. She was the beloved wife and friend of Patrick Edward Beirne from Leitrim, Ireland, who predeceased her in 2010. They shared a loving marriage for 45 years. Angela was a devoted mother of Yvonne M. Beirne FitzGerald and son-in-law James F. FitzGerald of Durham, CT. Angela was born in Dublin, Ireland. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Kielty and Catherine (neé O'Gorman) Kielty, both of Dublin, Ireland. Sadly, missed by her siblings, the late Rita (Thomas) McGhee, late Thomas (Myra) Kielty, Michael (late Mona) Kielty, late Maureen Kielty, late Noel Kielty, Brian Kielty, Doloras (Francis) Byrne, late Pauline (James) Dwyer all from Ireland and Gretta (Gerry) Johnston from England. Angela was much loved by her husband's family, Jean (Thomas) McGuire of Westbrook, CT, late Owen (Margaret) Beirne, late Peter (Breda) Beirne, Tom (Madge) Beirne, all of England, and late John William (Mai) Beirne of Leitrim, Ireland. She deeply cherished her many nieces, nephews, and cousins—all of these she loved dearly. Angela loved sports. Her favorite football team was the one that had Tom Brady as Quarterback (New England or Tampa Bay). Football season was greatly enhanced by the family fantasy football league with her son-in-law's siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was incredibly excited by winning the league many years in a row. Angela had great love and gratitude to those in the league - Patricia, Maureen, Julia, Rose, Philip, Kate, Danny, Eric, Lauren, Jessica, and Scott for somehow, Tom Brady was always available to draft no matter what round. Her other favorite team was the UConn Women's Basketball team. She followed them for many decades and loved each team member. As they joined the WNBA, any team that had one of UConn's players on it was her favorite. She also enjoyed the US women's Soccer Team. Angela loved to paint, draw, knit, go for walks, read, and learn new things on the computer. She was an Irish American Community Center member in East Haven, CT. Angela worked in banking as a customer service representative. Her favorite thing to do was to take care of seniors. When she retired from banking, she lasted 21 days as a retiree when she saw a notice in the paper from visiting nurses that they would train her as a Traveling Visiting Nurses Aid. This work was her favorite career of all time. She did this for 15 years, which suited her kind and caring heart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave, Hamden, CT 06518, at 10 am Friday, July 21st. Friends are asked to go directly to church.
