Thomas D. Harmon

U.S. Veteran

Thomas D. Harmon, age 90, Retired Lieutenant NHFD, died at Connecticut Hospice on November 22, 2012. Born in New Haven on July 26, 1922 to Thomas and Florence Harmon, he attended Hillhouse High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during WWII in the European Theatre of Operations with the 7612th Quarter Master Co. Upon his return from the war, Mr. Harmon married Anne Kelly and settled in West Haven.

Mr. Harmon was a member of the New Haven Fire Department for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was Past Commander of the American Legion Post 132. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Curtin Council, West Haven.

Tom is survived by his children Vincent (Marilyn) Harmon of Pensacola, FL. and Anne (Thomas) Sweeney of North Haven. He was the loving grandfather of Brian Harmon Navy HM1, Camp Pendleton, CA., Kathleen Harmon of Pensacola, FL., Colin Sweeney of Los Angeles, CA., Liam Sweeney of North Haven, and great grandfather of Kaitlynn Harmon. He is also survived by his niece Dorothy (Dennis) Marchetto and her family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anne, his parents, his siblings Edward T., Kenneth F., and Dorothy M. Harmon, and his dear friend, Edna MacCallum.

Tom’s family wishes to thank the residents and staff of Maplewoods at Hamden for the friendship and care offered Tom during the last seven years.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-7pm at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home at 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
